Pharmacy Exclusions of South Africa (PESA) list

The PESA list is an industry-standard exclusion list that serves as a guideline for medical schemes to manage acute medication claims. This list consists of broad categories of products and each scheme may choose which of these exclusions should apply, based on scheme benefits, clinical value, cost, etc.

With effect from 1 October 2011, all medications/products on the PESA list will be excluded for payment from the acute and/or over-the-counter (OTC) medication benefit, except where we indicate otherwise.
